Fragility is a body of work exploring the personal journey of a woman in the 21st century navigating both the fear of procreation as well as the painful process of grieving for fertility. The body of work explores the complex relationship women today face when considering their fertility, their quest to not conceive and how the use of hormonal contraceptives may be having a long-term detrimental effect on their fertility later in life.
Photographer Tia Lloyd explores her own experience with after effects of hormonal contraceptives, primarily focusing on fears of infertility and the debilitating effects of an ovarian cyst which transformed her lifestyle, mindset and how she perceived the future. The photographs within the series are visual metaphors in the form of a diary recording the physical and mental effects of living with a debilitating female health condition.
